What kind of Facebook user are you? Check it out.
I’ve decided that I’m a Moderately Intense User.
According to the quiz, I spend a lot of time updating my Facebook profile and doing other Facebook related activities.
Facebook does a lot of things with the information such as store them thoroughly. They keep every bit of detail regarding the user ranging from deleted messages, to last location and all the IP addresses used to log into Facebook. The information is used to identify the user and is passed on to advertisers so that the firms can locate us with their advertisements based on our information. Facebook also passes on the information to the NSA who has a database with information regarding nearly everyone on the internet.
Facebook makes money from the information by providing them to companies which provide advertisements to the the users, and in return for the advertisements Facebook gets money.
The stakeholders involved are all of the users of Facebook, that is approximately 1 billion people. The other stakeholder would be Facebook itself and the various companies who provide their advertisements to Facebook. It’s like a food chain, at the top are the companies who get information from Facebook and in return Facebook gets money and at the bottom are the users whose information is given away to the top via Facebook.
The social and ethical issues of another entity holding and using private information would be a breach in privacy and that could result to misuse of information as well. Facebook can make assumptions and create Zombie accounts for users and sell that information for money, along with the fact that if they wish to earn even more money, they could go to further lengths to have access to more sensitive information from the users and pass them on. Ethically it is not right because a virtual clone is made and there is no authenticity or privacy left. Information does not only go to companies but to intelligence agencies as well who can use it for other purposes.
